Learn to Play Programs

Learn to Play Programs are for girls aged 3 to 14 who are new to playing hockey.
Registration for the 2022/23 season will open on May 9th at 9:00am.

Fundamentals Program

Ages 3 to 5 (birth years 2017, 2018, 2019)

  • Fundamentals is an initiation program for girls with no hockey experience.
  • The program is led by professional instructors with help from older Wildcat volunteers who team up to ensure the sessions are skills-based and FUN.
  • Players wear full hockey equipment. Jerseys and socks are included in the cost of the program.

Fundamentals Schedule

  • Weekly sessions are 50 minutes long.
  • The program runs mid-September to late March.
  • Sessions run on Sunday mornings at 9am at Leaside Memorial Gardens.

Youth Learn To Play

Ages 5 to 6 (birth years 2016, 2017)

  • Learn To Play is for 5- and 6-year-olds with some skating and/or hockey experience.
  • The program is led by professional instructors with help from older Wildcat volunteers.
  • Players learn the skills of the game including skating, puck control, passing, and shooting.
  • Players wear full hockey equipment. Jerseys and socks are included in the cost of the program.

Learn To Play Schedule

  • Weekly sessions are 50 minutes long.
  • The program runs from mid-September through March.
  • The Learn To Play sessions will be offered at the following times/locations:

    • Friday afternoon, 4:30pm, Leaside Memorial Gardens
    • Sunday morning, 10am, Leaside Memorial Gardens
    • Sunday morning, 11am, Leaside Memorial Gardens

Introduction To Hockey

Ages 7 to 14 (birth years 2008 to 2015)

  • Introduction To Hockey is sponsored by Scotiabank.
  • The program is designed to give older girls with no or limited hockey experience the skills and confidence needed to join House League.
  • Participants will learn the fundamentals of skating, puck-handling, and passing.
  • Players wear full hockey equipment. Jerseys and socks are included in the cost of the program.

Introduction To Hockey Schedule

  • There are three 8-week sessions - Fall I, Fall II and Winter.
  • If there are spaces available, players who participate in Introduction To Hockey Fall (I or II) can register for the House League Program at a pro-rated price after Introduction To Hockey concludes.
     - Fall Session I:    September – October, Thursdays at 4:30pm, Leaside Memorial Gardens.
     - Fall Session II:   November – December, Thursdays at 4:30pm, Leaside Memorial Gardens
     - Winter Session: January – February, Thursdays at 4:30pm, Leaside Memorial Gardens.
  • Weekly sessions are 50 minutes long.
