FUNdamentals Program

Ages 3 to 5 (birth years 2015, 2016)

Fundamentals is an initiation program is for girls with no hockey experience but preferably some skating. This year's program will run from October to April.

The program is led by professionals with help from older Wildcat volunteers who team up to ensure the sessions are skills-based and FUN. The weekly sessions are just 40 minutes long (with a 5-minute break at “half time”) to ensure that beginning skaters get the most out of their time on the ice and improve to the best of their potential over the course of the season.

All participating players will be required to wear full hockey equipment so that they can enjoy a safe, amazing, and FUN introduction to the hockey experience. Jerseys and socks are included in the cost of the program.

Youth Learn To Play

Ages 5 to 6 (birth years 2014, 2015)

Our Youth Learn To Play program is designed for 5- and 6-year-olds with some skating and hockey experience and runs for 23 weeks from October to April.

The weekly 50-minute sessions are led by professional instructors and modeled on Hockey Canada’s Initiation Program, which encourages young players to become contributing members of a team, develop self-confidence, and learn the skills and rules of the game of hockey. The program features a progressive teaching curriculum in which skating, puck control, passing, and shooting are introduced and refined one step at a time.

All participating players will be required to wear full hockey equipment. Jerseys and socks are included in the cost of the program.

The Learn To Play sessions will be offered at ONE OF the following times/locations:

  • Friday afternoon, 4:30pm, Leaside Memorial Gardens
  • Sunday morning, 10am, Leaside Memorial Gardens
  • Sunday morning, 11am, Leaside Memorial Gardens

Minor Novice Program

Ages 6 and 7 (birth years 2013, 2014)

In accordance with Hockey Canada and Ontario Women's Hockey Association guidelines, this program for 6- and 7-year-olds emphasizes skill development with weekly professional-led practices and structured half-ice games.

Players are assigned to teams and take part in an hour-long Saturday practice led by professional instructors with help from volunteer parent coaches. All teams will participate in games on Sunday at Leaside Memorial Garden. The program’s primary focus is learning the positions in hockey and the basic rules of the game.

All participating players will be required to wear full hockey equipment. Jerseys and socks are included in the cost of the program.

Minor Novice Program: Times and Locations

Minor Novice is a twice-a-week program running for 23 weeks from October to April.

There will be a 50-minute practice on Saturday morning at Baycrest Arena. Games will take place Sunday at Leaside Memorial Garden. (Precise times for games and practices will vary.)

Introduction to Youth Hockey

Ages 8 to 14 (birth years 2003 to 2012)

Introduction to Hockey, sponsored by Scotiabank, is an 8-week program designed to give older girls with no or limited hockey experience the skills needed join House League.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of skating, puck-handling, and passing.

All participating players will be required to wear full hockey equipment. Jerseys and socks are included in the cost of the program.

Thursday afternoon, 4:40-5:20 p.m., Leaside Memorial Gardens
