Volunteer and Coach
House League Coach Selection Committee
This team works with the EVP House League to review the applications of parents indicating interest in volunteering to help out. The first draft of bench staff selection is undertaken in mid–July so if you are interested in one of these Coaching/Asst. Coach/Trainer/Manager positions please register your daughter before that time and indicate your interest in volunteering in the registration profile.
We welcome expressions of interest in any/all volunteer positions for teams, and we are truly grateful for everyone who is willing to volunteer. Every year some parents are not chosen to be on a bench, so we do try to make sure that if you are with us for multiple years you will get a chance on helping out your daughters team. This also means that if you have Coached or helped out on your daughters team this last year, you may not be chosen for this coming year.

As a program to encourage more female role-models we are strongly encouraging Mom’s, and non-parent women with hockey backgrounds, to step forward to become a Coach or Asst. Coach on your daughter’s team. These type of strong female role models help in the development of the girls. Division convenors work with our Coach Selection team to select the Coaches/Bench Staff for all of the teams, ensure all of the bench staff have the necessary certifications, allocate the girls to their teams with an eye to respect one mutual friend request AND balance the teams with respect to skill levels. Convenors are also responsible for ‘balancing’ teams (if necessary) and working with the Coaches to make this happen. Weekly communication with Coaches on necessary communications as needed.
There is a a trade deadline date of the weekend after the DS tryouts to try to minimize the number and duration of possible trades. This will allow the time for a good review of teams from games before this date, as well as for parents/players will know after this date, no other trades will be allowed.
Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Trainers and Team Managers
We will ask for interest in helping out on the bench at time of the Registration process for next year’s teams. All volunteers will must take the ‘Speak Out / Respect in Sport’ online course, and agree to a criminal background check (Vulnerable Sector Search – VSS). Each team will need to have a certified trainer and a certified Coach as well. OWHA rules also dictate a minimum of one female staff member. We continue to encourage more women to take on leadership roles on the various teams.
Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) – this background check is mandated by Hockey Canada and the OWHA. The Toronto Police Services was overwhelmed with the volume of applications for processing these forms and some people still have not received them. To ensure we can place volunteers on house league benches PLEASE ensure that your VSS form once received is scanned (both sides) with the CLEAR marking and sent to our Registrar otherwise those individuals will not be open to placement on teams in the fall.
We expect all volunteers who are interested in being on the bench can manage their schedules to be at a minimum of 70% of games AND practices. It is not okay to miss practices on a regular basis.
Bench Staff meeting – MANDATORY – has been set for Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Trainers, Managers. If you volunteer for any of these positions, please put in your calendars TODAY the date and time of; Monday September 14th, 2015. Location TBD and will be communicated to all volunteers chosen to help out on the benches.
Coaching ‘bull pen’ – if you would like to help out but cannot commit to on-going and regular attendance please let us know and we have developed a small ‘bull pen’ of Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Trainers to help out at either practice or games as needed by the various teams. This would also be a good way to get introduced to Coaching if you are interested but not sure what to expect.
Rink Information and AED Locations
Sponsorship – Open
This position will work with EVP HL to approach and secure sponsorships for HL teams and the TLGHA as a whole as necessary. Preferably someone with sales or business development experience, but we will take interested parties!

Year End Banquets – Two positions – Open
These two positions will organise the Year End banquets and coordinate with facilities and division conveners for the return of goalie equipment, trophies, awards and food for the events. Work with Conveners and facility to plan events for all divisions.
Schedule – Open
This position will work with the EVP HL to develop and manage the schedule for all House League divisions and teams. Blocks of available ice are given to them and they will plan out the yearly schedule to ensure balance of teams, locations and times across the divisions. Most of this work is done in late August and early September.
Web Content/Social Media – Open
Develop content for our website HL section specifically, source pictures (& permissions) from the various HL hockey games for posting on site, and social media. Ideally suited to a web writer, but we love volunteers so don’t be afraid to put up your hand!!
Social Media: This person will also participate and feed our various social media channels and manage any/all HL programs. They should have current social media experience preferably. Work to increase the leagues program awareness and advocacy in the community.
